2024 CALENDAR OF EVENTS

Navy League Initiatives and Events 2024:


ANNUAL MEETING – January 18

2023 in review, 2024 kick-off!  A chance to welcome new board members, appreciate volunteers, and “above and beyond” members. Sea Cadets and supported groups are in attendance to receive recognition for achievements in their leadership programs.


COMBINED MILITARY APPRECIATION BAND CONCERT – May 18

Navy League hosts this joint service event held in conjunction with National Military Appreciation Month, which is open to the public. Flag, general officers, community leaders, and service families attend this event. Navy League Sea Cadets attend the event and function as greeters, ushers, and escorts. A very patriotic event!


PACIFIC FLEET SAILOR OF THE YEAR – June 3 - 7

An event co-hosted with the U.S. Pacific Fleet command to recognize outstanding young sailors who are the absolute finest in the U.S. Pacific Fleet and to recognize outstanding young sailors who have demonstrated exemplary military leadership and personal dedication over the past year.


MILITARY STAYCATION GIVEAWAYS – July 4

Two-day staycation vacation entries are collected from active-duty military families at the July 4 Independence Day Celebration and concert at Ward Field at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam, to be awarded later in the month.


INDO-PACIFIC MARITIME SECURITY EXCHANGE (IMSE) Enabling a Better Future – August 1 – 2 (Tentative)

The enduring IMSE theme annually is Building Partnerships for Security, Stability and Prosperity. In 2023 covered tropic areas were Combatting International Criminal Activity on the High Seas – Expanding Disaster Preparedness and Response Capacity – Productive Engagement Among Nations. OMBUDSMAN APPRECIATION DINNER – September 14

A Navy Ombudsman’s role is to “serve as an information link between the command leadership and command families,” and Ombudsmen are trained to disseminate information and provide resource referrals. This dinner celebrates this role and shows appreciation for this key volunteer position.


AMERICAN PATRIOT AWARD DINNER – September 21

Each year two individuals are named as “American Patriots” and honored by Honolulu Council members and our community. Selection is based on service to the nation and service to our Hawaii community. This is the Honolulu Council’s marquee event annually. Sea Cadets and High School JROTC Cadets are always present and deliver the Colors as well as act as escorts and engage with guests.


PEARL HARBOR NAVY SHIPYARD GRADUATION – TBD October

This event marks the matriculation of Pearl Harbor Navy Shipyard apprentices. The council celebrates the apprentice’ accomplishments and present awards and checks to recognize and honor top graduates.


MILITARY SPOUSE APPRECIATION – November 9 (Tentative)

Annually a Military Spouse is identified by each branch of the service: the United States Air Force, United States Army, United States Coast Guard, United States Marine Corps, United States Navy, Hawaii Air National Guard, Hawaii Army National Guard, and United States Pacific Command.

The recipients are hosted by at City Hall and receive a Letter of Recognition from the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu. They are also honored at the 50-yard line, prior to kick-off, at the University of Hawaii Military Appreciation football game, and recognized by dignitaries and presented with a check.


SEA SERVICE AWARDS – November 21

This annual luncheon recognizes outstanding service members of the year from the Navy, Marines, Coast Guard  as well as employees of the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and the Maritime Industry.


TOYS FOR TOTS GOLF TOURNAMENT – December 13


A Toy Harvest to help the Toys for Tots program reach its goal of delivering a new toy at Christmas to a less fortunate keiki, aiding them in becoming responsible, productive, and patriotic citizens. Honolulu Navy League is one of the largest contributors of toys every year!




Sea Service Participation:


ADOPT-A-SHIP

While the USS Chung-Hoon & USS Hawaii are our adopted ship and submarine, we have expanded the outreach to celebrate all homeported ships and subs through Halfway Parties, Shoe Box Auctions, Send Off and Welcome Home support, and Change of Command Representation. We host “Welcome Home Dinners” for the crew on the 3rd Watch for all Ships/Subs/Cutters returning from deployment. We host Ice Cream Socials, Pizza Parties, Family Fun, and Military Appreciation Days throughout the year along with a variety of single sailor and family activities.


SEA SERVICE BIRTHDAY BALLS:

Events to celebrate the birthday of the nation’s services. Check-in and VIP escort duties are executed by the USS Missouri and RD Stethem Battalion Sea Cadets.

Celebration of the Submarine Force Birthday, the nation’s “strong and silent” service


NAVY BALL

Celebration of the Navy Birthday, an event dedicated to " enhancing a greater appreciation of our Navy heritage.”


COAST GUARD BALL

Celebration of the Coast Guard Birthday, one of the oldest organizations of the federal government.


MARINE CORP BALL

      Celebration of the Marine Corps Birthday, to celebrate the forming of the “Continental Marines” and        an              event always delivered with pomp and pageantry!









ALOHA WELCOME ACADEMY

Supplemental Professional Military Education (PME) biefing for all new Inbound Transfers to NAVREGHI and JBPHH.

The “Keeping Your Head Above Water” weekly event provides a cursory review of VA Medical eligibility benefits, VA home ownership and rental opportunities, financial planning while in the service or transitioning out, and Ocean Safety in Hawaii and different transportation processes and options. We are doing our part to prevent veterans from getting into financial peril, or becoming homeless, through prevention education. Information that can save time, save money, or a life.


Youth Leadership Development:

The Navy League cadet programs are for young people ages 10 through 17.

Cadets perform a variety of community service and learn the virtues of good citizenship and strong moral principles. Cadets are not influenced to join the armed services but will enter the adult world having been taught the fundamentals of citizenship and the value of being responsible and productive members of their community. If they choose to enlist, they enter at the E-3 rank.

Provide support for the needs of the Academy, transportation from the school to the shipyard, support for learning experiences at the shipyard for students and teachers, partnerships within the community to create awareness of the Career Pathway to jobs at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and other waterfront careers.  Providing options for keiki to gain experienced and work toward jobs at home.


     -     ISC2 Hawaii Chapter

Host Monthly meetings with cyber professionals, mentoring military, high school, and college students interested in cyber careers, sharing information that will extend their own knowledge and careers in IT and cyber

     -     Cyber Patriot

National Youth Cyber Defense Competition with teams comprised of middle and high school students, who are tasked to find cybersecurity vulnerabilities while maintaining critical services within a 6-hour period. Teams compete for the top placement within their state and region. Council provides support for Sea Cadets and JROTC and military homeschooled children that have teams each year.


STEM Learning and Training Center– A meeting center for Boy Scout, Girl Scout, Science, STEM, and Cyber programs for kids and adults, veteran training programs, and various military spouse organizations. The establishment of this center, located at the Honolulu Navy League office, has also allowed us to provide technical and classroom resources that facilitate after-school programs. The Center also continues to be available for training workshops in support of local or transient DOD components, the Naval Sea Cadet Corps., JROTC programs, and the Pearl Harbor Federal Manager Association.
